Feature 1: Student Space

Our team is currently exploring the possibility of creating a dedicated space exclusively for students across the state of Oregon.

We want to create a supportive space where students can engage with educators, share work-based learning resources and explore various career opportunities. With careful moderation, we think this forum could ensure a safe environment for collaboration and knowledge exchange across Oregon. And more importantly, we think that this tool could assist students in navigating their career paths confidently alongside educators.

Our ideas include:

  • Moderated forums | For guided discussions on career-related topics

  • Training modules | For building employability skills

  • Digital portfolio | For organizing, storing and showcasing student work

Feature 2: Courses

We also intend to offer specialized courses on our community space. These courses will help educators learn more about Career Connect Oregon--how to use it, how to contribute resources and how to leverage existing resources and tools within their teaching practices. We also want to create courses on our students-only forum to teach middle and high schoolers how to use existing state work-based learning resources.

By offering tailored learning experiences, we hope to promote continuous learning and development for educators and students alike.

The screenshot below shows our CCL Orientation course, which is currently in development. It will be our first course offering. You'll see lessons split into chapters (in the right side bar). Course enrollees will have the ability to bookmark individual lessons, ask questions while navigating through the course and track progress overtime.

We are exploring the potential for including badges, progress notifications (sent via email or in-forum messaging) and training non-CCL staff members to create and administer courses.

Feature 3: Partner Projects Integration

We're also exploring the integration of partner projects to enhance collaboration and communication among our user bases: educators, students, partners, and families & caregivers. By providing dedicated CCL-created pages showcasing key personnel, contact information and points of interest maps, we hope to create more accessibility and engagement with partner initiatives.

Additionally, the inclusion of curated FAQ articles (similar to the article you're currently reading) and dedicated forum spaces will further support seamless communication and knowledge exchange within the community. We recommend viewing a CCL Regional page--such as our Linn-Benton Regional Page--to get a sense of how these partner pages might look (and feel).

We believe these partner pages will lead to more connectivity and collaboration among our user base in the pursuit of career-related education.

Feature 4: MORE RESOURCES -- Expanding Our Resource Library

We are rapidly expanding our resource library. By continually updating and diversifying sources, we will provide comprehensive support for students, families, educators and partners navigating the realm of career-connected learning.

We currently have 33 resources throughout the four CCL domains. In the future, we want to add to this number while offering more targeted resources for students, educators, families and partners.

Feature 5: Sassy the Career Explorer Tool

Sassy is an AI-powered career explorer informed by the Oregon Department of Education’s extensive documentation on career connected learning and work-based learning. It is a collaboration between the Oregon Department of Education, the Journalistic Learning Initiative, and MIT Media Lab researchers at Playlab.ai. It helps Oregon students explore various aspects of career planning–from brainstorming career options to preparing for employment interviews and everything in between.

Sassy operates by leveraging advanced AI technologies, including a large language learning model to analyze and process vast amounts of data (from Oregon and beyond) related to career paths, educational opportunities, and job market trends. Users interact with Sassy by inputting their career-related queries or interests, and the AI, utilizing its comprehensive database and language understanding capabilities, provides personalized advice and recommendations.

This process involves matching users' needs and interests with relevant information from its extensive database. Through this method, Sassy acts as a highly responsive and knowledgeable career exploration tool, accessible to anyone seeking guidance in their professional development journey.

We want to work with our educators to trial a BETA version of Sassy in the coming weeks and months.

Feature 6: In-person Events

Nanosh, please write.

Final Thoughts

Through initiatives like the Student Space, specialized courses and the integration of tools like the Sassy, we want to help people find resources and the knowledge needed to navigate the complexities of career exploration and preparation. Additionally, the expansion of our resource library and the potential development of CTE pathways pages offer more opportunities for educators to connect and find the information they need to support their students.
